Matching your pine furniture with the rest of the home
How to get your pine furniture to match with the rest of the house
Pine furniture is light in colour, but is scattered with dark rings and knots, making it a very characteristic wood, and easily recognisable. Because pine is such a soft wood, it can easily be scratched. However, some people pay to have these “distressed” marks added to their pine furniture, believing it to add character. But matching shades of pine to your walls, fabrics and furniture already present in your home can be difficult. Here are some tips to help you with this.
1. Very pale shades of pine are great for maximising the light in a room. So if you have neutral colours in the home, such as white and cream, then pale pine furniture is probably the best solution for you.
2. Darker shades of pine can often be complimented by darker colours like deep blues and reds. This gives a lovely, warm feel to the home.
3. If you decide you want a darker shade of pine to compliment your home, but don’t want to part with your favourite furniture pieces, it is possible to stain lighter shades of pine and therefore make the colour darker and warmer.
4. In terms of rustic pine furniture and modern pine furniture, pine is incredibly versatile and can be adapted to either style. A rustic piece with painted handles can be transformed into the ultimate modern furniture simply by using metal handles instead.
5. So if your home is ultra-modern, you could use metal, glass or even leather handles to give your pine furniture that contemporary twist to blend it with the rest of your home.
6. But for the rustic, country home, keep the classic rustic look of your pine furniture, and use it wherever you can in the home. However, in the bedroom, try to stick to plain fabrics instead of floral patterns, to avoid overdoing the effect
7. This can also be applied to other rooms- stick to simple colours or patterns on curtains and sofas.
8. In terms of matching pine furniture to other types of wood, this is generally best avoided. However, if you can get the shade of wood to match, this should look ok, as long as the pieces aren’t placed too close together.
9. Shades of pine can vary, but if you try to keep them fairly similar in the room, this will pose no problems either.
10. Metallic furniture can look great with pine furniture. For example, a kitchen with pine units can look brilliant with a black and chrome table as the centre piece.
